This was my de-facto full marathon completion for the first time in my life. Despite lack of sleep (slept for 3 hours only) and the repeated gout attacks in September, my body was functioning so well this morning that for the first half 21km everything seemed right. I ate all the food provided, and never forgot to drink water and 100plus at all aid stations in every two kilometers.
However, the glazing sunlight in SG really gets strong after 7:30 and the temperature spikes the more you run. At around 32km post my apple watch gave me a warning that my heartbeat exceeded 170bpm, which was not really a good sign. So I had no choice but to slow down a bit while in the hope to recover from heat fatigue.
And suddenly, at 37km my left calf made a strange sound like a rubber band was torn off, then pain came instantly. I wouldn’t have continued if I had had more distance, but it was just 5km ahead and I thought I was just sort of “lucky” to have it at this later stage. So I told this and that to my poor calf and succeeded in getting it back to work. After painful walk and run for 5km, I finished the race in 4 hours and 24 mins, which is not bad for 1st trial but perhaps I could do a bit better than that.

From January this year I have spent significant time and effort in preparation for this race. I am really happy that I do not have to run any more, at least for the time being. Also, I am grateful to the devoted supports from my spouse – without her morale support I could not stand at the start line in F1 pit building earlier today.
Where shall I run a full next year?
